01 Company Introduction
Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation is a company engaged in the design, development, manufacturing and customer service of semiconductor products and has seven production bases in Japan (As of October 1, 2017, the number of employees is About 9,100 people).
Among them, Kumamoto Technology Center (Kikuyo Kumiko-gun, Kumamoto) mainly produces image sensors and display devices for digital cameras and surveillance cameras.
02 Business issues
At Sumitomo Electric, we are striving to realize product creation that is pleasing to our customers with the creation of unique products that make use of differentiation technology and speed and compatibility of development and production. As preparation for the 4th industrial revolution accompanying the progress of IoT, we are accelerating the automation efforts to improve the added value of indirect operations to support production activities as well as production sites.
03 Reason for introducing CarriRo
CarriRo was introduced as part of activities aiming to fully automate indirect tasks that support production activities such as cargo handling, transportation, and stocktaking.
We focused on conveying the parts from the delivery place to the warehouse and improved it.
Initially, we also considered introducing a transportation system such as automatic sorting conveyor, but decided to introduce CarriRo from the viewpoint of space constraints and introduction cost.
We put emphasis on ease of introduction to be able to deal with the reduction of workload and the conveying wires that change each time.
Unlike other transport machines CarriRo is able to cope with complex conveying wires.
Also, ease of operation is one of the deciding factors. Even if it is introduced, it is meaningless unless it can be used by site workers at the site. The operation is very simple and within no time the workers were able to handle it.
04 Effect after introduction of CarriRo
Its been a year since we started to use CarriRo. Although initially we did not meet our required specifications, we are kicking off improvement projects in collaboration with ZMP, and we are continuing to improve by introducing production within FY 2017.
Details with respect to working with CarriRo are settled and remodeling to our specifications is also being promoted with ZMP's cooperation.
Because it seems that effect can be expected also in terms of productivity, we are aiming to introduce more CarriRo.
By using Karugamo mode, workers can now carry multiple trucks, increasing material transport efficiency. The total man-hours can be made more efficient and productivity can be raised.
05 CarriRo Future development
Currently, only a part of the Kumamoto Technology Center is using CarriRo, but we will continue to investigate lateral deployment of CarriRo introduction.
Although CarriRo is assumed to be used in the general environment.It can be utilized in a clean room where a certain degree of cleanliness is required, so we will try it together with ZMP.
In addition, as a next step, we will aim at improving inventory management by promoting full automation by CarriRo Autonomous Moving and promoting IoT such as RFID.
