At the start of sales of the Autonomous Movement model, 2 additional Autonomous models and 3 additional Following models were introduced. Currently, a total of 11 units are being operated.
Mr. Manabe Senior Managing Executive Officer
1. Company Introduction
Our company was established in 2012 as a logistics company that specializes in retailing throughout Hokkaido.
2. Business issues
The Ebetsu Logistics Center, the core of our logistics operations, is a large center covering each temperature zone, the lack of human resources in recent years, it has become an issue that must be allowed to take precedence over anything. It is said that there is a possibility of "manpower shortage bankruptcy", and there is an urgent need to improve the working environment by adopting cutting-edge technology at an early stage rather than the limited work force.
3. Reason for introducing CarriRo®
[2018/8] Our company has a total floor area of about 17 thousand square meters. Because the work hours are long, we recommended the introduction of a CarriRo® in order to save labor and improve the working environment. This is a passing point, and is a step up to the maximum goal of “full automation”.
[2019/9] With the increase in SKUs for home delivery services, the use of the auto store introduced in August 2018 has enabled efficient storage and delivery, and urgent transport to the collection line has become an urgent task. At present, we do not rely on robots for all the work in the warehouse, but we are promoting the use of CarriRo®'s for the purpose of "labor saving" where humans and robots coexist.
4. Effects after introducing CarriRo®
[2018/8] Our company considers towing a cart for transporting goods by using a CarriRo®, for the purpose of saving labor and reducing the burden of transporting workers.
In order to maximize the number of carts that can be transported at one time, we introduced two units for testing and verification purposes. Based on the verification after the introduction, we determined that it is possible to make multiple carts that can be towed by one CarriRo® by devising cart connection.
Four additional units were introduced based on shipping capacity, transfer time, and processing capacity on the receiving side. We decided to use a total of 6 units.
[2019/9] A single worker pulls six carts at a time with a CarriRo® and were able to greatly improve the work time. To further improve efficiency, two Autonomous models and three more Following models were introduced in December 2018 at the start of sales of Autonomous Movement model.
5. Next Deployment
[2018/8] The current CarriRo® is a beacon-following type, but if Autonomous movement becomes possible, we can play a part of logistics in the warehouse without accompanying persons. Changing the associated person and steadily planning the operation with the sensor and the beacon attached to a fully automated scenario will be challenging with the site.
[2019/9] Until now, it was used in the way of Karugamo and tow. By making full use of the Autonomous movement model introduced at the end of last year, we are taking on the challenge of reducing the number of personnel required for transportation to "zero". For further use, ZMP has a model that can be used in a freezing environment and a high-running model that is expected to be used in an outdoor environment. We expect the development of easy linkage function with WMS, mapping function, voice/volume optimization function, etc.
