Logistics support robot CarriRo® introduced at LIXIL Viva New Logistics Center


CarriRo® AD transports two carts connected together

CarriRo®, a logistics support robot sold by ZMP Inc. in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo (CEO, Hisashi Taniguchi) was introduced to a major home center company LIXIL Viva in Saitama-shi, Saitama (President and COO, Osamu Watanabe). In September 2019, a total of 6 units were installed at the Higashimatsuyama Logistics Center, a newly established logistics base, in order to improve transport efficiency and save labor. Five CarriRo® AD (Autonomous Moving models) are automatically transported from the sorting to the shipping, and one CarriRo® FD (Following model) is for transporting containers to clean.

LIXIL Viva Corporation (https://www.vivahome.co.jp/corporate_top/) operates home centers such as Super Viva Home. We are addressing the labor shortage associated with the acceleration of store openings in metropolitan areas such as the Tokyo metropolitan area, reducing logistics costs, and improving the efficiency of logistics functions. As part of this, we established the Higashimatsuyama Logistics Center and introduced material handling equipment such as sorters and automatic sorting machines.

The reason to the introduction of CarriRo® is that it is easy to set up the transport route for the autonomous movement mode, and that it is easy to change the route after setting. On the other hand, with autonomous transfer robots such as AGV and SLAM that are guided by magnetic tape, it takes a lot of time to set the travel route, and the transport routes to the shipping berth are diverse. By transporting two or three carts at a time in the autonomous movement mode of CarriRo® AD, a 30% reduction in handling work is expected, leading to a reduction in worker load.

Furthermore, CarriRo® FD (Following model) can be used for transporting containers reducing the number of round trips and reducing transport man-hours.

The logistics support robot CarriRo® is a product developed by applying ZMP's Autonomous driving technology represented by the service demonstration of the Automatic taxi® that ZMP is working on. In the logistics industry, where there is a rapid labor shortage due to the declining birthrate and aging population, CarriRo® sales are being carried out for the purpose of saving labor and increasing efficiency in the logistics industry. Since the start of sales, it has been installed for more than 140 users, and with new added value through autonomous movement, it has been introduced in various fields, including logistics bases and factories, and the service industry such as hotels.
