Full scale introduction of Logistics support robot CarriRo® AD at Sagawa Global Logistics Co., Ltd.

-Higher efficiency and Labor saving achieved in warehouse operations-

CarriRo® AD (Autonomous Moving Model), a logistic support robot of ZMP Inc. in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo (CEO , Hisashi Taniguchi, hereinafter ZMP) which started to be in sale since November 2018 got introduced to Sagawa Global Logistics Co., Ltd. where its Head office in Tokyo Shinagawa-ku (President and CEO, Kotobayashi Morishita), which develops domestic logistics business in the SG Holding Group, aims to streamline and reduce labor in-house work by automating transportation work.In January 2019, CarriRo® AD was introduced to the East Kanto branch Kashiwa SRC (Kashiwa city, Chiba prefecture).

Reducing the traveling time of workers involved in carrying loads was a major issue, as the frequency of traffic in the warehouse is high due to the relationship between in-store operations and work contents.

Therefore, at the company, as a solution to this problem, we decided to introduce CarriRo®AD which can carry baggage up to 300 kg automatically. By utilizing the variable landmark which can change the traveling route each time by setting the traveling route in advance as a pattern in advance, flexible operation becomes possible and which could make more efficient and labor-saving. The verification was done from December for practical use.

The company does not load cargo into CarriRo®, but tow a cargo and after we examined and verified it resulted carrying more baggage.

In the future,we take advantage of advanced technology and aim to optimize resources through labor saving and also realize optimal logistics design for customers.

Earlier one cargo was carried by a person now after the introduction of CarriRo® AD two cargo can be carried with no human support

■Unmanned Transport
1. Transport the commodity that has been checked for receipt inspection to the storage location approximately 70 m ahead.
2. Reverse route conveyance with the empty containers from the storage area.

【Logistics Support Robot CarriRo®】
CarriRo® is a bogie type logistic support robot which is available in two different modes. The Autonomous Moving mode model and a Following model. The latter can be operated using a joystick to move in karugamo mode which automatically follows a beacon (transmitter). By using CarriRo®, it is possible to raise the transport productivity up to about 3 times. With CarriRo® alone you can carry baggage of up to 150 kg, CarriRo® with an optional tow jig can carry about 300 kg of baggage for 8 hours in a row, improving the efficiency of picking operations in warehouses and distribution centers. It is also possible to substitute a belt conveyor or AGV (automatic guided vehicle) by using it for inter-process conveyance in the factory. Moreover, since the work load is greatly reduced, it becomes possible for women and elderly people to carry out the transportation work which was regarded as hard labor so far, so it can be used for expanding workers and promoting employment.
