Logistics support robot CarriRo® automatically get on and off the elevator

ZMP Inc. in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo (CEO, Hisashi Taniguchi) to provide a material transportation solution using the logistics support robot CarriRo® in response to the request of the people involved in the quarantine treatment of mild cases of novel coronavirus infectious disease.

Currently, local governments around the country are soliciting and deciding on facilities and private hotels that accept quarantine for the mildly ill. At facilities that accept people with mild illness, many goods transport operations such as daily lunch delivery and garbage collection happens. Not only a serious labor shortage, but we may also have to face major challenges in the future expansion of the facility, such as due to Level 2 infection of staffs. Another problem is that even those with mild medical treatment face great stress in the enclosed space of the facility.

In response to this situation, ZMP provides solutions that contribute to medical treatment and operation staff's (1) infection risk reduction, (2) psychological burden reduction, and (3) labor saving by utilizing the logistics support robot CarriRo®. Regarding this solution, with the cooperation of several local governments, we are also verifying the operation at an actual facility where quarantine treatment is planned.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare "Quarantine Treatment Manual for Mild Persons with New Type Coronavirus Disease", there is a case where you don't deliver to each room, but have to come to pick up a boxed lunch delivered to a specific place. In such a case, CarriRo® can carry the goods to the accommodation floor unattended so that the staff can carry the goods without going to the floor.

After the CarriRo® is placed on the elevator and sent to the accommodation floor, the CarriRo® automatically exits the elevator and stops on the floor. You can remotely monitor the status of the management system ROBO-HI® connected to CarriRo® while you are returning to and operating. The number of staff can be limited, which reduces the risk of infection and saves labor for transportation work. Also, depending on the facility, it is possible to automatically go around the floor where people with mild infection, etc., stay, and transport goods to the front of each room. This kind of operation can be constructed without linking with the elevator or assuming a wireless communication environment, enabling quick response.

In addition, this solution can also be used to deliver individual deliveries from outside the facility to the designated floor. For example the staff can receive supplies from family members or online for the people with mild cases of the novel corona virus without direct contact.

In an emergency like today, where it is necessary for the entire society to work in unison, ZMP will work with the government, local governments and other relevant parties to do what the robot venture should do right now.
