Logistics support robot CarriRo® AD+ introduced to Seiko Epson Group

The logistics support robot CarriRo® AD+ (pallet loading type) of ZMP Inc. in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo (CEO, Hisashi Taniguchi, hereinafter referred to as ZMP) introduced to Akita Epson Corporation in Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture (President, Masatoshi Endo, hereinafter referred to as Akita Epson) a major precision equipment manufacturer and of the Seiko Epson Group. It was introduced from March 2020 for the purpose of automation and labor saving of transportation.

CarriRo® AD+ (pallete type) is transporting folding containers

Until now, Akita Epson used to manually transport parts and products before and after assembly from the warehouse to the manufacturing site. There was a maximum of 30 transportations per day on a route of about 300m round trips, and the number of man-hours required for the transportation oppressed the normal work, and the heavy load placed a heavy burden on the operator.

When introducing CarriRo® user can freely set and change routes and actions. Characteristic of CarriRo® mentioned below meets the requirements for solving problems. (1) Driving performance (2) Safety (3) Maximum payload capacity of 600 kg and (4) Route setting at landmarks.

By introducing one CarriRo® AD+ (pallet loading type) they have realized a complete labor saving at the point of introduction. By reducing the transport time, we have reduced overtime and can now devote time to other work and work improvements. It also led to resolve the safety issues due to the load on workers when transporting heavy objects and the risk of contact with people in narrow passages.

In the future, we would like to share the results of the introduction within the company and use it as an opportunity to solve problems in other departments. At the same time, we we will expand the effects by further improving the utilization rate of CarriRo.

The logistics support robot CarriRo® is a product developed by applying ZMP's Autonomous Driving technology which is represented by the service demonstration of the Auto taxi taxi® under development by ZMP.
