Autonomous Driving taxi service trial promotion video release

ZMP Inc. in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo (CEO, Taniguchi Hisashi, hereinafter referred to as ZMP) have released a promotion video of Autonomous Driving taxi service trial on public roads, which was conducted in Central Tokyo from August 27th. At the same time, we will start offering Autonomous Driving systems used in this service trial and the introduction consulting for taxi proprietors nationwide who have problems with driver shortage.

Using Autonomous Driving vehicle and taxi allocation system which were developed by ZMP, the taxi business operator, HINOMARU Kotsu Co., Ltd., in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo (President & CEO, Kazutaka Tomita, hereinafter referred to as HINOMARU Kotsu) operates an Autonomous Driving taxi. Autonomous Driving vehicle RoboCar® MiniVan is based on Toyota Estima Hybrid equipped with various sensors such as RoboVision® stereo camera and IZAC® the computer for Autonomous Driving to recognize the surrounding environment and operate all the driving operations. It enables Autonomous Driving by computer. The allocation system includes a smartphone application for customers to book, unlock and get in Autonomous Driving taxi, a tablet application installed in the vehicle for checking the route and performing a settlement operation when getting off the vehicle, and the remote management system to monitor taxi traveling from a remote place. ZMP and HINOMARU Kotsu commenced collaboration from June 2017 with the aim of commercializing Autonomous Driving taxi in 2020. We have improved Autonomous Driving algorithm through acquisition of driving data of experienced taxi drivers of HINOMARU Kotsu and hearing of their driving know-how etc. It has led to the realization of natural driving along the flow of traffic and the improvement of ride comfort.

ZMP start to offer sales of AD vehicle and allocation system in this service trial, a consulting service related to AD implementation, operation and maintenance, driver education, etc. for taxi proprietors who have problems with driver shortage. Please contact us for details on implementation.

Public road service trial promotion video

The customer selects the destination and route beforehand with the smartphone application, designates the departure date and time, registers the credit card details and completes the reservation.

<Arrival & Unlocking>
Autonomous Driving taxi arrives before reservation time. After scanning QR code* of the application, the customer can get in by unlocking door. (* QR code is a registered trademark of DENSO WAVE INCORPORATED.)

< Autonomous Driving >
The customer closes the door with the tablet in the car. After confirming the route, press "OK" and the Autonomous Driving taxi departs it to the destination. The steering wheel, accelerator, brake, and all driving operations are performed by the computer. (The driver may intervene due to traffic conditions, etc.)

<Arrival & Settlement>
Arrive at the destination. When the customer confirms the arrival on the tablet, the settlement is completed. The door opens automatically and the customer can get off.

Our trial project was also selected in Tokyo Metropolitan Government business support project called "Business Model Construction Project Utilizing Autonomous Driving Technology", inorder to further accelerate the practical use of Autonomous Driving Technology.
